From Connection to Isolation – A Paradox of the Digital Age.
Never in human history have people been as connected as they are today. With just a smartphone, we can video call people on the other side of the world, share our feelings, update news, and even become famous overnight. But never before has the feeling of loneliness, isolation and disorientation among young people been so profound.
The Silent Identity Crisis.
The proliferation of social media, short-form content (short videos), and recommendation algorithms has blurred the line between the real self and the “virtual” self. Many young people live in a “shiny” version that they build to be liked, followed, and recognized. But when the screen is turned off, they fall into a void. They do not know who they are, what they believe in, how they want to live.
Education lags behind the pace of life.
The education system is still more focused on imparting knowledge than helping students understand themselves, know how to manage emotions, develop critical thinking, and the ability to dialogue with the real world. Meanwhile, digital platforms are taking over all of young people’s time and minds – at a dizzying speed and full of temptations.
The solution does not lie in “banning”.
Many adults believe that simply limiting phone usage time and banning social media can “save” the young generation. But that only solves the tip of the iceberg. The real problem lies in guiding young people to build their own value milestones, develop a solid personality so as not to be swept away by the flood of information.
The direction of Humanistic Technology.
Teaching digital skills in parallel with life skills: Knowing how to filter information, knowing how to protect yourself online, and most importantly: knowing how to disconnect to live fully in reality.
Developing real communities: Where young people can listen, share, learn and accompany each other - not through the screen.
Intergenerational dialogue: Instead of blaming, let's listen together. Adults need to learn to understand young people in the new era, and vice versa.
